Description
The goal of this capture was the design effects of the sailboat masts and spare riggings against the fading light. I wanted to try and push the limits of the light to get a silhouette-like look. there was a good amount of haze-- pollution--present.This is a marina of Puget Sound in the Seattle area. those are the Olympic Mts in the BG

Good setting, sharp and clear.
I am not sure about the composition though. It needs more space from below. The boats' bottoms are cut. There is also a little too much mess at the front. Not always avoidable in such places.
Nice to see you posting again, I hope to see more images soon.

on this work. I spent more time experimenting with the crop (left side & below)
than on any other image I've ever worked on. the goal, as stated above was the
design created by fading light of the masts and rigging. to have cropped it lower
would have brought in more "mess" such as thick railings which covered the
entire area of what remained of the FG boats. if you look closely at the bottom
of the image you'll see a thick stone hand railing. this line moves from left to
right and I chose to cut it as the right corner point. below here are several
round railings, then a pathway of brick on which are planters and such right
in front of the FG boats, then a parking lot- beginning with the cement slabs
of each parking space. by cutting this out, this seemed to best emphasize
the masts.
also, regarding the color and shadow details, I learned from the training methods
of professional photographer Chris Orwig on lynda.com in his series,
Photoshop CS3 for Photographer's. I also used a viginette with a blending
technique learned from C.O. series to make the focal point of the flag even
stronger
