Description
Greetings GFXartist'shere is my first submission of a photo--no manipulation
(a different B&W version of this photo is in my blog. while very small you can still get an idea of the amount of noise without using Noiseware Pro plug-in)
Canon PS A640; FL 29.2; f/4.1; metering mode: pattern; ss 1/125; no flash

The crop and frame building is your choice and a matter of taste. I like it.
What could be improved is the sharpness. The picture is soft, cause the speed was kind of low. Otherwise, the dof could be higher, so the eyes are in focus.
The exposure is good. The white parts seem to me on the verge of over-exposure, but nothing seems burned, so you can darken it if you wish.
For a better result:
Use 'aperture priority'. Take the picture when there is more light.
That will allow you closing the aperture for a better dof, and hopefully still have a faster shutter speed. (to increase dof you can also get a bit further away from the dog).
Focal point should be the eye. I think here it is more toward the nose.
If you are worried about burning the white parts, use a negative compensation of one stop (-1/3).
And Bob is your uncle.

here's some info I didn't give up front cuz I wanted to see how anyone might crit first--
the image 'out of the camera' is much sharper but overflowing with noise, so much so that I could not submit this without first purchasing Imagenomic Noiseware Pro plug-in. the parts here that are soft are the results of the plug-in. soft may not be ideal but its much better than noise and allows the image to be submittable. I gave the Exif info but these are the settings the camera chose as I had it on auto. I've learned my camera tends to overexpose some so until I get the basics down on aperture priority or other manual settings I'm limited. I worked very hard on watching the white parts to not be overexposed, but more practise there I guess. the dof was decreased by the plug-in. and I'm having difficulty in working my camera right getting the focal point in focus....I need a tripod. lastly, the first time this work was uploaded the border came up messed. it was not my intention for there to be 2 white lines but for some reason that's how it uploaded the 2nd time. I am happy enuf with that surprise so have left it as is. your feedback is highly valued and will help me when I begin to transition to manual. thnx a bunch!!

It is a bit soft. Was the dog moving?
Work your manual settings in your cam if you want to improve.
